I want all students to be able to make gains and be able to demonstrate greater skills in playing the soprano recorder. 4th grade students at Netzaberg elementary school will understand how to play their recorder on pitch with the correct rhythm and a steady beat. I want them to be able to listen to their own recording of their performance, then compare and reflect on how they play their recorder. If they have trouble hearing the differences in the two melodies, I want them to be able to recognize the problems and change the melody.
SmartMusic has a built-in assessment tool that students and the teacher can use to evaluate student success in real time. SmartMusic gives each student a percentage score of correct notes played on each of their assignments, which will help the student with the reflection process. SmartMusic also notates on the computer screen where the students had a pitch, rhythm, or steady beat problem. This will help them compare their melody to the correct melody. A student may take this assessment tool over and over again as many times as they like until they get a passing score. This will help to drive motivation and confidence in the student.
